Coats for Kids: Warmth and Care for Unit 5 Students

At the Normal Rotary Club, we believe in the power of compassion and community support. Our Coats for Kids initiative is a heartfelt effort to provide warmth and comfort to students in need within Unit 5 school district. As winter approaches, we strive to ensure that no child goes without a cozy coat during the chilly months.

Making a Difference Together

Coats for Kids is more than just a charity; it's a symbol of care and kindness. Through this program, we aim to foster a sense of belonging and support for Unit 5 students, empowering them to face the cold weather with confidence. By joining hands with the community, we can make a significant impact and brighten the lives of young learners.

How You Can Help

We warmly invite you to be a part of Coats for Kids. Your generous contribution, whether it's through monetary donations or providing new or gently used coats, can make a significant difference in the lives of these students. Together, we can create a warm and nurturing environment for all, promoting a sense of inclusivity and compassion within our community.

Normal Rotary provides hundreds of coats
To Unit 5 students in need!

The Normal Rotary Club’s 2022-23 Coats for Kids project has provided 702 coats for students in need within Unit 5.

Connie Gentry, who leads the club’s Coats for Kids committee, said the club spent $10,158 to buy the coats.

In addition to receiving donations from Meijer’s and Farm and Fleet, Gentry has scoured local retailers for coats at bargain prices.

The effort is especially important because one of every four students lives at or below the poverty line, Gentry said. She has heard that some children miss school on cold winter days because they don’t have adequate winter wear.
